What is NDIS assistive technology?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme NDIS Assistive technology (AT) is basically any piece of equipment that lets you perform a task you wouldn’t otherwise be able to do, or makes it easier and safer for you to perform a task. NDIS assistive technologies can be life-changing for those with disabilities and support you to live a more independent life.

When can specialised footwear be funded by NDIS?
When evidence to prove the support is needed for the participant’s disability, such as written referral from a therapist or podiatrist.
Perfect Fit Pedorthics uses this referral to assess the individual needs and provides evidence to show how the specialised footwear or orthotics will assist in daily living. To support an application, we will submit a report which includes:
- the need for orthopaedic supports to be directly related to the disability
- a recommendation on footwear options to support current and future needs
- determining that supports are reasonable and necessary
- evidence that the supports will help the participant to be substantially more independent
- reducing the need for other kinds of supports, and be of long-term benefit
To access NDIS funding for footwear or footwear modifications, individuals must undergo an assessment by a healthcare professional, such as a podiatrist, who can provide evidence of the person’s functional limitations and the need for specialized footwear or modifications. The assessment report is then submitted to the NDIS for review, and if approved, funding can be allocated to cover the costs.
